Lafayette’s If I Were Mayor Contest 2025
With such a strong turn out last year, we are excited to announce
Lafayette’s participation in all three age brackets for
The Oregon Mayor’s Association’s If I Were Mayor Contest-2025.
- Elementary School (grade 4-5) - Posters Contest (Max size 24x24 in)
- Middle School (grade 6-8) - Essay Contest (Word, PDF, or Hard Copy, 300-500 words)
- High School (grades 9-12) - Digital Media Presentations (Videos only: MP4 or online video format such as YouTube type link, 1-3 minutes)
A winner from each category will move on to the statewide OMA competition for a chance at winning $500!!!
An official resolution will be read by Mayor Malcomson at the April City Council Meeting declaring the student a Jr. Mayor of Lafayette for the remainder of 2025
Jr. Mayors and their immediate families are invited to an awards dinner with Mayor Malcomson on Saturday, April 12th, 2025 where they will be presented with a non-monetary award and will also be invited throughout the year to assist Mayor Malcomson during city events throughout the remainder of 2025 such as 4th of July, Tree Lighting, and Ribbon Cuttings
Entries Due March 31, 2025, by 3pm

Wascher Elementary students please check with your student’s teacher to learn if they will be creating entries as an in-class project. (If multiple entries for a student are submitted the one submitted from class will be used)
Please include your student’s full name, Parent/Guardian’s full name, grade level and phone number. Submitting an entry gives permission for your student’s entry to be uploaded onto the City of Lafayette’s website. Students must reside in Lafayette, Oregon at the time of submission to enter. Winners will be required to fill out the state contest form for entry.
